Face: How to Apply Makeup and Still Look Natural

Start with a Clean Canvas

To achieve a natural and flawless look, it is always best to start with a freshly cleansed and moisturized face. First you want to decide how much makeup coverage you want. You may want to use only a tinted moisturizer, just a concealer, or you may be like me and like to use both.

Tinted Moisturizer

There are a lot of options when it comes to choosing a tinted moisturizer. I like one that is oil-free and also has a sunscreen. I also try to match my skin tone the best I can, choosing a shade slightly lighter than darker (you can always use bronzer or blush to add color). When applying my tinted moisturizer, I only use a small pea size and apply to the entire face (a little bit goes a long way). I smooth out and make sure I have just a thin layer and even coverage. If that is all the coverage you like, then you are all set.

Concealer

Now that I have finished applying my tinted moisturizer, I then look over may face to see if there are any visible blemishes or imperfections I may want to further cover. If so, this is where I apply my concealer (again, I use a shade lighter). I apply a small amount and blend only to that specific spot or area. I continue to do this until those areas look flawless.

Extra Step: Once you have your makeup the way you desire, and depending on how much concealer you have applied, you may want to use a light powder to hold everything in place. After I apply the powder, I dust off any loose powder remaining on my face.

Blush

Blush is the final step to your natural look. If you are applying blush to your face after applying tinted moisturizer and concealer (you did not apply powder), I have found cream blush to be the best to apply on top. If you are applying blush after the powder step, I have found a powder blush is best to use.

After applying blush, you may find this has possibly disturbed your concealer step. If so, just use a small amount of concealer and blend until it looks flawless.
